A pair of fires in Baltimore County yesterday morning damaged two homes, but no injuries were reported.
The first fire was reported at 4:02 a.m. in Rosedale. Baltimore County fire crews responded to the 9100 block of Lennings Lane for a report of a fire at a single-family dwelling. All occupants of the house escaped, authorities said. An estimate of the damage was not available. State property records indicate that the home is owned by Oluchi N. Ukomadu.
Several minutes after the first call, at 4:09 a.m., county fire dispatchers received a report of a two-story house fire in the 11900 block of Woodland Drive in the Chestnut Ridge area. A lack of fire hydrants forced county firefighters to request a tanker task force to help bring water to the scene, authorities said. Firefighters also drew water from a nearby pond.
Lt. John Cromwell, a county fire spokesman, said the fire was so intense that the house collapsed. Firefighters returned to the house yesterday afternoon and poured foam on the burnt remnants to prevent flare-ups, he said.
The home was not occupied. Investigators were told the homeowners were on vacation while contractors worked on the house, Cromwell said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, and a damage estimate had not yet been calculated by fire investigators, Cromwell said.
