Mount St. Mary's wins in NEC

Jean Cajou scored 21 points last night as Mount St. Mary's (18-12) won, 72-62, against Wagner (16-14) in the opening round of the Northeast Conference tournament.

The Mount hosts Sacred Heart in Sunday's semifinal.

Delaware State 74, UMES 60: : Donald Johnson scored a career-high 31 points and the visiting Hornets (8-23, 6-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic) ended a four-game losing streak in the regular-season finale. Neal Pitt had 22 points for the Hawks (7-22, 3-13).

Top 25 men

No. 11 Villanova 97, Providence 80: : Scottie Reynolds scored 23 points and helped the Wildcats (25-6, 13-5) finish a perfect season at the Pavilion and earn a double-bye in the Big East tournament.

ACC women

Wake Forest 59, North Carolina State 54: : Corinne Groves scored 18 points to help the ninth-seeded Demon Deacons (19-10) advance to today's quarterfinal against Maryland.

State women

Loyola 68, Manhattan 63: : Kaitlin Grant scored 13 of her 24 points in the second half and the Greyhounds (10-19) held the Jaspers (10-20) to 28 percent from the field in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament in Albany, N.Y.

Eighth-seeded Loyola faces top seed Marist in today's quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m.

Coppin State 61, Morgan State 53: : Whitney Cunningham had a game-high 18 points to power the host Eagles (14-13, 12-4 MEAC) , who were tied at halftime, past the Bears (17-12, 9-7). Corin Adams finished with 15 points for Morgan.

UMES 55, Delaware State 52: : Tiffany Reid scored 18 points as the host Hawks (14-13, 10-6 MEAC) held off a rally by the Hornets (15-14, 11-5). Delaware State's Keyhana Wakefield scored 19.
