Virginia B. Poole, a homemaker and active church member, died Feb. 26 of respiratory failure at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. She was 88.
Virginia Brown was born in Baltimore and raised in Homeland. She was a 1938 graduate of Girls Latin School and Eaton-Burnett Business School.
She was married in 1942 to Victor Harriman Poole, a civil engineer, who was vice president of J.E. Greiner & Co.
The couple, who lived in the Hampton section of Baltimore County for many years, moved to Dennis Port, Mass., in 1977 after Mr. Poole retired and purchased the Garland Motel.
After converting the oceanfront motel to condominiums, they returned to Towson in 1985 and moved to the Blakehurst Retirement Community in 1993. Mr. Poole died in 1999.
Mrs. Poole was a longtime communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church in Towson, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and volunteered in the Surprise Shop. She also was an avid bridge player.
Services were held Wednesday. Surviving are two sons, Thomas A. Poole of Lutherville and Donald R. Poole of Clover, S.C.; a daughter, Patricia Poole Kelley of Sunset Beach, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
