MEET THE BAND

The Baltimore Sun

Hometown: Baltimore

Members: Ed "E. Joseph" Neenan, vocals, guitars, keyboards and drums; Nick Porcaro, drums and percussion; Mia Regalado, bass and backing vocals; Bryan "Snuttock" Lee, piano and synthesizers

Founded: 2006

Style: experimental rock

Influenced by: Grant Lee Buffalo, U2, The Chameleons, Steve Gadd

Notable: Right now, the band is laying down tracks for a new, as-of-yet-untitled album. Neenan said the group wants to try a less polished sound on this next one.

Quotable: "The focus we're going to try and maintain on the next record is a more organic, indie-rock sense," Neenan said. "We find ourselves listening to the power of the last Spoon record, or how a band like Arcade Fire maintains their ability to harken back to a Bunnyman-esque approach to songs - but it sounds organic and powerful."

E. Joseph and the Phantom Heart performs with Gavin Elder and Matt Rocks on Saturday at the Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St. Doors open at 8 p.m. Call 410-662-0069 or go to theottobar.com. The band: myspace.com/ejosephmusic.
