This is an eight-buck, sweet, bubbly wine from Gallo. Any wine snob with any pride should hate it on sight. But guess what? It's a very well-made and supremely affordable wine. It's fun, it's fruity and it's not overly sweet. The flavors of peach, apricot, orange and lime are not that different from a well-made Asti Spumante, though the Gallo version is more sophisticated than most Astis. There's plenty of lively acidity to keep it from being cloying. This wine's ideal role may be at wedding receptions, where a dry sparkling wine would likely cost much more and be wasted on many of the guests.
