Catonsville girls advance to Baltimore County final

A 15-4 third quarter gave the No. 8 Catonsville girls the breathing room they needed in their 48-39 win over Perry Hall in a Baltimore County semifinal.

The Comets (20-2) began the period leading by two points but jumped on the Gators (16-6) early to get out to a comfortable lead they would never relinquish.

Maya Torain led all scorers with 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for Catonsville, and teammate Shamika Williams scored nine of her 14 points in the second half.

Rachel Smith had 12 points for Perry Hall in the loss.

With the win, Catonsville advanced to Friday's Baltimore County final, in which it will try to defend its title against Randallstown.

SEVERNA PARK 59, NORTH COUNTY 55:: Anna Patterson scored 10 of her 21 points in the second half as the Falcons (7-14) came back from six points down to defeat the visiting Knights (2-14).

Patterson also had nine rebounds, and Maddie Keating added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Severna Park.


NO. 6 DIGITAL HARBOR 72, SAMUEL L. BANKS 65:: Four players scored in double figures to lead the Rams (17-4) past the visiting Lions.

George Jackson paced Digital Harbor with 18 points and has 1,062 points for his career.

GLENELG 63, HOWARD 60, OT:: The Gladiators (7-14) made nine of 10 free throws in the extra period to pull out the win over the visiting Lions.

C. MILTON WRIGHT 83, ABERDEEN 79:: Five players reached double figures for the Mustangs (13-6) in their upset of the host Eagles (15-4)

Derrick Vogel led the way with 19 points and Xavier Smith added 18 points for C. Milton Wright.
