Iona goes on 25-0 run, defeats Loyola, 77-65

Devon Clarke scored 15 points, and Iona used an early second half surge to route host Loyola (11-16, 6-9 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) , 77-65, last night.

Trailing 40-37 early in the second half, the Gaels (12-14, 7-8) scored 25 unanswered points to take a 62-40 lead on Milan Prodanvic's three-pointer with 11:46 left in the game.

Alejo Rodriguez, who finished with 14 points, had eight in the Iona spurt.

West Virginia 93, No 13 Villanova 72:: Da'Sean Butler scored a career-high 43 points to lead the host Mountaineers (17-8, 8-6 Big East) to victory over the Wildcats (20-5, 8-4).

No. 15 Butler 80, Illinois-Chicago 61: : Matt Howard had 19 points and eight rebounds, Gordon Hayward finished with 18 points, and the Bulldogs (22-2, 13-1 Horizon League) hit 13 three-pointers in beating the visiting Flames (11-14, 4-11).

No. 14 Florida State 77, No. 8 North Carolina 70: : Cierra Bravard had 16 points, leading the host Seminoles (21-5, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) past the Tar Heels (20-4, 6-3).

State women

LOYOLA 64, NIAGARA 63:: Ashley Alexander (21 points) hit a fadeaway jumper from the free-throw line with 15 seconds remaining to lift the Greyhounds (9-15, 4-10 Metro Atlantic Athletic) past the visiting Purple Eagles (1-24, 0-14).
