* Dr. Harry Brandt has been elected president of the medical staff of St. Joseph Medical Center. His term will run through Dec. 31, 2010. Brandt has been the head of psychiatry at St. Joseph since 1996 and has served as a member of the board of directors there since 2005.

In addition, he is the director of the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt Health System, a guest researcher at the National Institutes of Health and a clinical associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is a principal investigator in numerous clinical trials investigating eating disorders.

Brandt received a medical degree from the UM School of Medicine and a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University.

* Dr. Norbert Zemankiewicz has joined the medical team at the Wound Care Center at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown. Zemankiewicz, who is completing a fellowship at Grandview Hospital, part of Kettering Medical Center Network in Dayton, Ohio, was a resident at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla., and an intern at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His expertise is in endovascular services.

* Dr. Gwenn Smith was recently appointed director of neuroimaging for the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She will work to develop a neuroimaging program in the neurobiology of late-life depression and biomarkers for mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease.

Smith received her doctorate in neuropsychology from the City University of New York and completed postdoctoral training at the Aging and Dementia Research Center of New York University School of Medicine and the PET Program of Brookhaven National Laboratory.

* Constance Johnson has been hired as the manager of the partial hospitalization program and outpatient services at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital in Baltimore. Johnson has more than 18 years of experience in psychiatry. She is the former director of nursing at an acute-care psychiatric hospital in South Carolina.
