Hagerstown man critically injured in Glenelg crash
A Hagerstown man was critically injured early yesterday morning when his vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Route 32 in Glenelg, Howard County police say. The motorist, identified as Lawrence Elliott Black, 26, was driving northbound on Route 32 near the Burntwoods Road interchange at about 2:45 a.m. when his 2005 Hyundai drove off the right side of the roadway, according to officials. At impact, Black, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was flown by medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was in critical condition yesterday.
McDaniel student, 19, killed in hit-run car crash
A 19-year-old McDaniel College student from New York was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run collision on West Main Street in Westminster, police said. Police were searching yesterday for the driver of a Ford pickup truck that slammed into the Chevrolet Cavalier in which the victim and four other McDaniel students were riding. Thomas Rouleau, of Gilboa, N.Y., died at the scene, Westminster police said. Three other students, Katenna Minadakis of Hampstead, Patricia Mellott of Cumberland and David Arnold of Catonsville, all 19, were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that weren't life-threatening and released yesterday. The fifth passenger was treated at Carroll Hospital Center and released. The collision happened about 11 p.m., moments after the Ford pickup was involved in a minor accident while backing out of a parking space in downtown Westminster, according to police. A witness saw the truck speed west on Main Street. A mile away, the truck plowed into the rear of the Cavalier, which had just left the McDaniel campus. The pickup's driver fled the scene and could not be located.
Crash on Interstate 95 in Harford kills passenger
A single-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in Harford County killed a rear-seat passenger and injured two other adults, state police said. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., a 2006 Honda Civic was southbound on the left lane of Interstate 95 near Route 543 when the vehicle crossed two lanes into the right shoulder, where the car overturned several times. The vehicle came to rest against a tree, trapping the three occupants inside. The rear-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Names were being withheld last night pending family notification.
