Mardi Gras event to benefit 3 groups

The Ellicott City Restoration Foundation will hold its fourth annual Mardi Gras Magnifique benefit event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 24 in the town's historic district. The event, which will be in the format of a traveling happy hour, will benefit the Ellicott City Restoration Foundation, Emory United Methodist church and the Galveston Historical Foundation.

Four restaurants - the Ellicott Mills Brewing Company, La Palapa, the Phoenix and the Rumor Mill - will offer drink specials and snacks. About 12 merchants will stay open and donate raffle items.

Tickets are $25 and include a drink, a raffle ticket and a ticket to Howard County Tourism's Ye Haunted History of Olde Ellicott City ghost tour. Participants must be ages 21 or older. Tickets are available at Howard County Tourism, 8267 Main St., or at the Rumor Mill, 8069 Tiber Alley on the day of the event.

Study classes

Stressless Tests will offer middle and high school study skills classes for students who do well in class but struggle with tests.

High school classes meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, starting this week, at Centennial High School. Middle school classes meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Feb. 23, at Burleigh Manor Middle School.

Payment is on a sliding scale between $185 and $135; parents can choose a fee that they can afford.

Dance, cheer coaches sought : The Ellicott City Patriots Football & Cheer Program is seeking volunteer coaches with dance, cheer or gymnastic experience. Needed are head and assistant coaches, teen coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, cheer gymnastic coaches, competition coaches and fitness trainers. EYO soccer : Registration is open for the Elkridge Youth Organization's soccer program. The deadline to register is Feb. 28; March 31 for late registration.
