Cooking, art classes for kids

The Columbia Art Center will offer "Culinary Kids for Ages 9-12," a hands-on cooking class that teaches children science, math, nutrition, creativity and kitchen safety while they prepare delicious food.

Nikki McGowan, owner of Culinary Kids Cooking School LLC, will teach the course. Chefs' hats and aprons are provided.

Classes meet from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 23 through March 30, at the Columbia Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth. Tuition is $120 for Columbia residents; $130 for nonresidents.

The art center will offer an "Introduction to Stained Glass" for older students from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, this week through March 11. A second session will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, this week through March 12.

Participants will learn to cut glass and copper foil, and assemble and solder their own stained-glass project. Tuition is $145 for residents; $155 for nonresidents.

A Continuing Stained Glass workshop for intermediate students will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, this week through March 10. Tuition is $145 for residents; $155 for nonresidents.

Preschool classes : The east Columbia branch library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will offer preschool classes focused on creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension and building a foundation for reading through recognizing letters and numbers and learning vocabulary.
