Lake Clifton boys rout Dunbar in No. 1 debut

Holding the No. 1 spot this week for the first time, the Lake Clifton boys basketball team impressively played the part yesterday at Dunbar.

Showing early dominance at the rim to gain a first-quarter advantage, the Lakers got hot from the perimeter to take over in the second quarter on their way to an easy 68-29 win over the No. 12 Poets.

Forward Will Barton scored 21 points; his brother Antonio added 19; and center Cleveland Melvin had 17 as the Lakers took a 42-17 halftime lead and never looked back.

Lake Clifton, fresh off Saturday's win over previous-No. 1 St. Frances on Saturday, improves to 13-0, while the Poets fall to 9-4.

Sean Farr led the Poets with eight points.


No. 1 St. Frances 80, No. 7 Archbishop Spalding 59: : The Panthers (15-1) - led by Briana Hutchens with 24 points - went on a 28-12 run in the third quarter to seal the win over the Cavaliers (15-5).

No. 9 Catonsville 47, Milford Mill 44: : Shelby Polk hit a three-pointer with one second left to lift the Comets (12-2).
