O'Malley, Ravens among those taking the Plunge

Gov. Martin O'Malley will join Ravens Joe Flacco, Todd Heap, Haloti Ngata, and Adam Terry and others in leading the 13th annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge Saturday at Sandy Point State Park.

The Aerotek Plungapalooza '09 festival will open at 8 a.m. with mass plunges at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. To participate, individuals need to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges or a personal donation and will receive a commemorative Plunge sweat shirt, lunch and a photo gift. Additional premiums are available for those raising $500 or more.

Other celebrities expected to participate include Ravens assistant head coach Rex Ryan, WBAL-TV's Jennifer Franciotti and Rob Roblin, and 98 Rock's Mickey, Amelia & Spiegel Morning Show, Stash, Theo, Don Koenig and Sarah "The Queen" Fleischer.

The goal of the plunge for Maryland Special Olympics is to raise $3 million.

Registration has been redesigned to be faster and can be made online at www.plungemd.com or at 800-541-7544, ext. 503.

Aerotek Plungapalooza is open to the public free of charge, but parking is limited at Sandy Point, and available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Reservations for school or charter buses are accepted at plunge@somd.org or 410-789-6677.

Free shuttle buses will run from the Naval Academy Stadium, Anne Arundel Community College and Kent Island High School.
