Weird tunnels

The Baltimore Sun

Looming on inbound I-279 like a public-housing complex in Kiev, the Fort Pitt Tunnel has traumatized motorists since its completion in the year 937 A.D. OK, it was 1960. But it looks older.

Congested, narrow, dimly lit and more than 3,600 feet long, it's a claustrophobic's nightmare.

Sure, there's a terrific view of the Pittsburgh skyline when you finally emerge from the thing.

But at what cost to your sanity?
