Simona Petronyte hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds left to bring Towson within one, but no closer, as the Tigers fell to visiting William and Mary, 61-60, yesterday.
Towson (8-3, 0-1 Colonial Athletic Association) missed four free throws in the final 20 seconds.
The Tribe (8-4, 1-0) ended Towson's six-game home winning streak and extended its winning streak to three. William and Mary has won five of the past seven at Towson.
The opening half featured three ties in the first 16 minutes. The Tribe settled down and led by seven before taking a 41-31 lead on a three-pointer by Courtney Portell with 42 seconds left.
Towson continued to battle back in the second half, coming as close as three points before Petronyte's three-pointer cut a 61-57 deficit to a point.
Shanae Baker-Brice and Petronyte each finished with a team-leading 15 points.
Janine Aldridge had a game-high 22 points for William and Mary.
"We put ourselves in a tremendous hole in the first few minutes of the game," Loyola coach Joe Logan said. "Our effort was not there, and that was very disappointing. We cannot let a team out-rebound us like they did, but I also have to give Fairfield credit."
Kaitlin Grant (17 points) made a jumper in the paint to pull Loyola (7-6, 2-1) within 29-17 with 5:17 to play. It was as close as the Greyhounds would get.
Baendu Lowenthal finished with a team-high 16 points for the Stags (7-6, 2-1 MAAC), and Stephanie Geehan had12 points and a game-best 18 rebounds.
ST. ELIZABETH 57, SALISBURY 50: : The Eagles (8-7) - led by Jessica Dixon with 16 points - went on a 6-0 run in the final two minutes of the first half and held off a rally by the Sea Gulls (0-11) in the New York University Classic.
Janay Johnson led the Sea Gulls with 16 points.
GWYNEDD-MERCY 90, GOUCHER 59: : Lauren Rosar scored 20 points to power the Griffins (7-3) past the Gophers (4-6) at the ECAC Tournament in Kissimee, Fla. Tai Young led Goucher with 16.
JOHNS HOPKINS 75, PENN STATE-ALTOONA 45: : Andrew Farber-Miller had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Jays (6-3) past the Lions (5-5) in the championship of the ECAC tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
MCDANIEL 49, PENN STATE-BEHREND 48: : Miguel Jones (North County) hit a jumper with 8.1 seconds left to lift the Green Terror (6-3) over the Lions (6-4) in the championship game of the Hampton Inn Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in York, Pa.
McDaniel overcame an eight-point deficit in the final minute. Jones finished with 13 points.
Adam Potter led the Lions (6-4) with a game-high 20 points.
MISERICORDIA 76, HOOD 58: : The Cougars took an early lead and held it the rest of the way in the consolation game of the Greyhound Starters Classic.
The Blazers' Tim Abercrombie and the Cougars Vinny Baumunk each scored 14 points.
