'Street Gang' tells story of 'Sesame Street'
PBS' Sesame Street, which reaches 8 million viewers in 120 countries, will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with many products.
The recently published Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street by Michael Davis chronicles the evolution of the show created by Jim Henson, the man behind the Muppets, including Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, and Elmo.
Davis is a former Baltimore Sun editor and TV Guide columnist.
The fall will see a second book, Sesame Street: A Celebration of Forty Years of Life on the Street, by Louise Gikow, and a DVD, Sesame Street: 40th Anniversary.
Travolta's son dies
Police in the Bahamas say John Travolta's teenage son has died after injuring himself at the actor's vacation home.
Police spokeswoman Loretta Mackey says 16-year-old Jett Travolta hit his head in a bathtub yesterday morning. She said he was declared dead at Rand Memorial Hospital on Grand Bahama Island.
Jett was the oldest child of Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, who also have an 8-year-old daughter. The family arrived on a private plane Tuesday and had been vacationing at their home in the Old Bahama Bay resort community.
A spokeswoman for the hospital in Freeport said she could not release any information because of privacy concerns.
Huppert leads Cannes jury
French actress Isabelle Huppert will head the jury of the 62nd edition of the Cannes film festival in May.
Huppert, 55, has twice won the best actress award at the film festival on the French Riviera - for The Piano Teacher in 2001 and for Violette in 1978. The Cannes film festival will run May 13 to 24.
Artworks stolen in Berlin
Thieves stole works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and others from a Berlin gallery over the New Year's holiday, police said yesterday.
More than 30 works - worth an estimated 180,000 euros ($250,000) - were stolen, apparently between Wednesday afternoon and lunchtime Thursday, police spokeswoman Claudia Schweiger said. The artwork was taken from the Fasanengalerie, a private gallery.
