Ohio State's Wells undecided about draft

Ohio State star Chris "Beanie" Wells isn't ready to say whether the Fiesta Bowl will be his last game for the Buckeyes. "I personally feel like I haven't done enough at Ohio State, the things I wanted to accomplish here, to move on to the next level," the junior running back said yesterday. Asked whether that meant he was leaning toward staying at Ohio State for another season, Wells said: "I don't want to say I'm leaning toward staying or I'm leaning toward going." The 10th-ranked Buckeyes (10-2) play third-ranked Texas (11-1) on Monday in Glendale, Ariz. Two weeks ago, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel suggested it should be an easy decision considering he thinks Wells will be a top draft choice and that it might be time to go. Wells has run for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns this season despite missing three games after injuring a foot in the opener.
More NFL draft: : ESPN.com reported that Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman and South Carolina cornerback Captain Munnerlyn and linebacker Eric Norwood, all juniors, said they will enter the draft in the spring.
Oklahoma: : Coach Bob Stoops earned $3 million when the calendar flipped. A clause in Stoops' contract - approved in 2005 by the university's board of regents - provided for the coach, 48, to receive a so-called "stay bonus" of $3 million after completing 10 seasons as the Sooners' coach. Stoops was scheduled to receive the bonus if he remained at Oklahoma through 2008, which ended Wednesday. No. 2 Oklahoma plays No. 1 Florida in the Bowl Championship Series title game Thursday in Miami.
California: : Coach Jeff Tedford agreed to a two-year contract extension that takes him through the 2015 season. The Golden Bears completed a 9-4 season Saturday by beating Miami, 24-17, in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. It was Cal's fifth win in a school-record six straight bowl appearances under Tedford, who is 59-30 over seven seasons.
Tulsa: : Coach Todd Graham agreed to a new 10-year contract that could keep him with the Golden Hurricane through the 2018 season. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Graham has coached Tulsa to its first back-to-back 10-win seasons in school history. The Golden Hurricane (10-3) will face Ball State (12-1) in the GMAC Bowl on Tuesday in Mobile, Ala.
Report: Bonds undergoes hip surgery, eyeing return

Facing a March trial on charges of lying to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative case, Barry Bonds must first recuperate from hip surgery. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Bonds, who has said he is not retiring and wants to play baseball again, underwent a hip procedure. Bonds had the surgery with the intent of resuming his playing career this year, the Chronicle reported, citing a source familiar with the operation. With the start of spring training six weeks away, baseball's home run king would not be fully healed by then but could be by Opening Day, the Chronicle reported. Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, and Dr. Arthur Ting, who performed the surgery, declined to comment when reached by the newspaper. Bonds, 44, who has a major league-record 762 home runs, last played Sept. 26, 2007, the end to his 15 years as a San Francisco Giant. In October, the Major League Baseball Players Association said it had evidence that teams acted in concert against signing Bonds, but the union reached an agreement with commissioner Bud Selig's office to delay the filing of any grievance.
Bolt edges Phelps to win international media honor

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt outpolled swimmer Michael Phelps of Rodgers Forge in a vote for the 2008 Athlete of the Year by the international media. Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva took the top place as Sportswoman of the Year, and Spain's soccer team was voted Team of the Year for winning the European Championship. In a poll by the International Sports Press Association, journalists from 96 nations gave Bolt 1,673 points to 1,557 for Phelps. Bolt won three gold medals, setting world records in the 100 meters, 200 and 400 relay in Beijing. Phelps made history by winning eight golds for the U.S.
Horse racing: : From 2002 to 2005, owner Michael Gill won more than 500 times at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course. Yesterday, Gill prevailed twice on opening day of the winter meet at Laurel, winning with Elliot's Exchange in the second race and Communicated in the sixth for trainer Tim Hooper. Gill scaled back his operations in 2006 and 2007 but about six months ago began replenishing his stock at Elk Creek Ranch Training Center in Pennsylvania.

In the other first-round match, Nikolay Davydenko ousted Andy Roddick, 6-4, 6-4, and will face Rafael Nadal in today's other semifinal. Nadal and Federer received first-round byes in the exhibition event, which is not part of the ATP Tour but offers a winner-take-all prize of $250,000.
