Chalk up yet another holiday that has become defined and dominated by television. There is a New Year's Eve TV show for just about every demographic and taste, including one featuring Miley Cyrus on MTV and the eternal Dick Clark on ABC. Given the economy, I suspect more Americans than ever will be ringing in the new year in front of their television sets.
In addition to Cyrus, A Miley-Sized Surprise includes performances by Kevin Rudolph, the Veronicas and the Academy Is. (8 p.m., MTV).
For those who just can't get enough of the flash and trash of La Vegas, there's Fox's New Year's Eve Live From Las Vegas with Robbie Knievel jumping his motorcycle over an exploding faux volcano. (11 p.m., WBFF-Channel 45)
On ESPN, motocross star Robbie Maddison will try to jump the top of the fake Arc de Triomphe in front of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. (11 p.m., ESPN)
Here is one show worth watching: Spectacle: Elvis Costello With Tony Bennett. This interview-music show is fascinating because Bennett fails to disguise his contempt for Costello as a musician - and you can feel the tension. And the music Bennett performs is terrific. (9 p.m., Sundance). ***
