Kristi Toliver scored 12 points and Lynetta Kizer had 10 for Maryland, but the Terrapins were routed, 86-57, at Pittsburgh yesterday.
Shavonte Zellous scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half to lead No. 24 Pittsburgh to the upset of No. 8 Maryland.
"This is the biggest win in our program's history," Panthers coach Agnus Berenato told the crowd after the game.
Maryland (7-2) committed 22 turnovers in losing for the first time since a season-opening defeat at Texas Christian. The Panthers handed Maryland its biggest loss since a 74-44 loss to Duke on March 6, 2005.
"Pitt just outworked, outhustled and outcompeted us for 40 minutes," Maryland coach Brenda Frese said. "All of the credit goes to Pitt. They did everything right. Everything we did was disappointing because we didn't compete."
LOYOLA 86, RIDER 78:: Siobhan Prior entered the weekend having never topped the 20-point mark in a game. After she scored a team-high 21 points in the Greyhounds' win over the Broncs, the senior guard from Nottingham, England, has accomplished the feat in two straight games.
Prior, who scored 22 on Friday night at Manhattan, helped Loyola (6-2 overall, 2-0 MAAC) win its second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game with a 6-for-8 effort from the field.
She matched her career high with four three-pointers, not missing from behind the arc, and she was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Combined with her 9-for-11 performance Friday, she opened MAAC play 15-for-19 from the field.
Rider (2-5, 0-2) trimmed Loyola's 13-point lead to one, 58-57, with 9:48 to play on Shaunice Parker's jumper, but Prior responded immediately, making a driving layup for the Greyhounds.
"Siobhan is showing a tremendous amount of leadership through her actions, and our younger kids are starting to play very hard," Loyola coach Joe Logan said. "I think that tonight we showed our depth, and a lot of players on our bench took advantage of those minutes."
