Quinn, out for season, 'was willing to risk' injury
nfl
Brady Quinn waited his whole life to make the NFL and then 1 1/2 years more for his first start for the Cleveland Browns. And then, it was gone. Quinn's season ended officially yesterday after just three starts, done in by a broken right index finger that he tried to play with Sunday and might now require surgery. Quinn could have sat out against the Houston Texans, but the second-year quarterback chose to play and did more damage to his finger. "That was something that I was willing to risk," said Quinn, who must decide whether to have surgery or have his finger immobilized in a splint. Either way, Quinn won't play again this season. Cleveland put him on injured reserve last night. With Quinn out, Derek Anderson, a former Raven, is back as the starting quarterback for the 4-7 Browns. However, Anderson's days in Cleveland appear numbered. Coach Romeo Crennel, who might not be back next season, said Quinn will be his starter going into training camp in 2009.
Ravens: : A federal judge has dismissed a Baltimore artist's lawsuit, which argued that the Ravens are unfairly profiting from a logo he designed in 1995. Frederick E. Bouchat, a security guard from South Baltimore, filed suit in February, alleging that the Ravens copied their original logo from an image he created and continued to show the logo in video clips from the 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons. He asked the judge to return all film and copies of the logo to him so he could destroy them. Bouchat also named NFL Films, the NFL and The Baltimore Sun as defendants in the case because all three sell videos or photographs depicting the logo. U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis dismissed the charges against all defendants, noting that the "flying B" logo was an "inconsequential" component in depicting action from the Ravens' first three seasons.

Redskins: : Linebacker London Fletcher wasn't able to practice because of a sprained foot, putting his streak of 130 consecutive NFL starts in jeopardy.
Ovechkin's hat trick helps Capitals end skid

Alex Ovechkin had his sixth career hat trick and added an assist to help the Washington Capitals stop a three-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. Eric Fehr and Viktor Kozlov added goals for Washington. The injury-hampered Capitals needed Ovechkin's help because they were missing seven players from their roster. Chris Clark (stress fracture of forearm), Jeff Schultz (broken finger), Boyd Gordon (back) and John Erskine (undisclosed) were hurt Monday night in a loss to the Minnesota Wild. They joined Alexander Semin (back), Mike Green (shoulder) and Sergei Fedorov (ankle), each of whom has been out with injuries. Schultz will be out four to six weeks, while Clark is expected to miss at least three weeks. The rest are considered day-to-day.
