Sister Ann Mercedes Miller, a retired parochial school teacher, died of heart disease Nov. 19 at her order's motherhouse in Aston, Pa. She was 91.

Born Rose Marie Miller in Baltimore and raised near Johns Hopkins Hospital, she attended the old St. Andrew's Parochial School and was a 1935 Seton High School graduate.

She then entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg.

She taught at Immaculate Conception School in Towson, St. Elizabeth School in Patterson Park, SS. Philip and James School in Charles Village, St. Joseph School in Fullerton, Shrine of the Little Flower School in Belair-Edison and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School in Essex. She also taught at Catholic High School of Baltimore and Towson Catholic High School.

From 1999 to 2003, she lived at St. Anthony Convent in Gardenville.

Sister Ann Mercedes also taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Bethesda, Nativity School and St. Bernadette School in Silver Spring.

A Mass was offered Monday.

Two of her sisters, Sister Basilia Miller and Sister Teresiana Miller, both now deceased, also entered the order.
