Holiday events at Savage Mill

Historic Savage Mill will hold its Holiday Magic at the Mill weekend of events and entertainment Saturday and Nov. 23 at 8600 Foundry St., Savage.

Among the offerings are chocolate and champagne at the Antique Center and International Antiques and Home Design Center, and free appraisals; quick portrait sketches by Sylvia James George at the New Weave Building; a talk by artist and art educator Camellia A. Blackwell; a lecture by Yolanda Voss on fashion, style and beauty (with refreshments); massage demonstrations, beer tastings, an Art Walk/Open House organized by resident artists, pet photos with Santa and other treats.

The mill's traditional "Parade of Trees," in which each merchant decorates a tree and the mill offers visitors the chance to donate to a charity at each tree, will be held both days.

Family workshops

The South Laurel Recreation Council Inc. is accepting registration for holiday workshops for children, teens, adults and families. The workshops run Nov. 23 through Dec. 20 and are held in the Montpelier Carriage House and the Deerfield Run Community Center in South Laurel.

Holiday workshops for ages 6 to 12 begin Nov. 23 with "Countdown to Christmas" crafts. Children can also register to decorate molded chocolate candy and make a sugarplum cottage. Children's workshops cost $5, including materials.

Older children, teens and adults can register for family workshops that include learning to make stamped greeting cards, soap and bath salts, and a fleece hat and scarf. Workshops on making glass beaded ornaments, fresh flower arrangements and etched glass ornaments are also offered. Materials are included.

For kids : Children's classes at the Savage branch library, 9525 Durness Lane, include "Play Partners," a 20- to 30-minute program for infants through toddlers (age 23 months) with an adult at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday. Registration is not needed.

* "3, 2, FUN!" for ages 2 and 3, with an adult, will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Registration is not needed.
