The period was defined by two big Ravens plays - one on offense, one on defense. Quarterback Joe Flacco connected with Yamon Figurs - on the second play after veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason left the game with a shoulder injury - on a long pass down the middle for a 43-yard touchdown. When the Texans responded by driving to the Ravens' 1-yard line, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata halted Houston with an interception in the end zone.

With a first down at its 3, Houston gave up a safety when tackle Duane Brown was called for holding while pulling down Terrell Suggs to prevent a sack in the end zone.
