The annual Taurid meteor shower is under way. It typically peaks between Nov. 5 and 12. Astronomers say this is a "swarm year," as the Earth passes through an especially dense region of the dust trail left by Comet 2P/Encke. The last swarm year, 2005, produced a slow trickle of fireballs. Stargazers have reported quite a few in recent weeks. Best time to watch: the hours around midnight.
