Howard Tech Council to present awards Nov. 11

The Howard Technology Council, in partnership with Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, will present the 2008 Technology Awards at an event scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at APL's Kossiakoff Center, 11100 Johns Hopkins Road, North Laurel.

The awards program recognizes innovative companies and their contributions to the Howard County community and to the economy. The keynote speaker will be Aris Melissaratos, special adviser on enterprise development to the president of the Johns Hopkins University.

Business plan seminar set

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center will offer a seminar, "Developing Your First Business Plan," from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Center for business and Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

The program is being presented in partnership with the Greater Baltimore SCORE, Chapter No. 3, and is designed to launch the first-time small-business entrepreneur and encourage success. Topics are to include the business concept, market opportunity, legal structure, pricing and competition, balance sheets, income/expense projections, and types and sources of funding.

The cost is $69, and includes a sample business plan. Registration is required.
