Laurel man escapes carjacking attempt

A man armed with a semiautomatic handgun attempted to carjack a man in the driveway of his Laurel home late Thursday, county police said.

The victim had parked his vehicle in the driveway of his home in the 100 block of Oak Run when a man in a silver-colored Honda with Virginia license plates pulled up and asked him for directions, police said.

The man in the car pointed a pistol at the resident and demanded his keys, police said.

The resident ran for cover, and the gunman drove away without taking anything. Police are investigating the incident.
