Ravens linebacker-defensive end Terrell Suggs said they just need a win - in the most desperate way.
"We know this is our season," Suggs said yesterday. "It's got to be taken that this could make or break our season. Everybody thought maybe it was the Pittsburgh game or the Tennessee game. But this is it.
"You lose this one, you're going to get guys starting to wither off and starting to jump off the bandwagon. So we're trying to keep everyone on."
Mad in Miami
A comment by Ravens coach John Harbaugh triggered some intense reaction in Miami.
On a conference call with South Florida-based reporters, Harbaugh said offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has been successful in a number of places. He included the Dolphins, who went 1-15 last season under Cameron.
"He did a great job there with what he had to work with," Harbaugh said.
When reporters relayed Harbaugh's opinion, defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday said: "With what he had to work with. I guess that's the key, huh? There's not much I can say about that. It definitely was a tough season last year. What I would say is, what did we have to work with as players?"
Holliday added: "I think that's just a young coach, a young head coach. And I think he'll look back on that comment and wish he didn't say that."
Yanda to be ready for '09
Marshal Yanda will have surgery to repair three torn ligaments in his right knee, and Harbaugh said his starting right guard will be ready to play next season.
"He should be practicing at full speed for the" organized team activities next spring, Harbaugh said.
Rookie linebacker Tavares Gooden, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday along with Yanda, will have two surgeries. The third-round draft pick will have a sports hernia and hip injury repaired at different times.
Lack of sacks for Scott
After recording 9 1/2 sacks in the first 14 games of 2006, linebacker Bart Scott has two in his past 23 games.
But Scott said he isn't discouraged by the drought. Because the Ravens haven't had big leads late in games, he estimated he gets one or two chances a game to blitz on passing downs.
"For what I can affect, I think I'm playing just as good as I ever have," Scott said. "You don't become No. 1 in defense in every category if everybody is not playing good football."
Strong safety Dawan Landry (neck and shoulders) has been recovering "very rapidly," Harbaugh said. The coach didn't give a timetable but said, "He'll be back sooner rather than later." ... The Ravens got "decent news" on the magnetic resonance imaging on returner Yamon Figurs (knee) and wide receiver Demetrius Williams (ankle). Figurs, Williams and offensive tackle Adam Terry (knee) did not practice. Offensive tackle Jared Gaither (neck), cornerback Fabian Washington (shoulder) and safety Tom Zbikowski (shoulder) were limited. ... Cornerback Samari Rolle, who had neck surgery two weeks ago, wasn't wearing a cervical collar in the locker room yesterday. "I feel a whole lot better," Rolle said. "I can move [my neck], and I'm just waiting to be cleared." ... General manager Ozzie Newsome said he spoke with eight teams before the trade deadline but wasn't close to making any deal. He declined to name the teams.
