'Starter Wife' returns

The Baltimore Sun

The Starter Wife, a hit cable miniseries that garnered 10 Emmy nominations, arrives tonight as a weekly series on USA. Debra Messing reprises her role as Molly Kagan, ex-wife of a show-biz mogul forced to navigate the shark-infested straits of Hollywood with only a little help from a few select friends and a 7-year-old daughter. One of the friends is played by the divine Judy Davis, who won an Emmy for her work in the miniseries and, happily, has signed on for the season. (9 tonight, USA) *** ( 3 STARS)

CHRIS IS ALREADY BACK And here's a show that returned for its fourth-season premiere without notice from Z on TV last week - Everybody Hates Chris. I have been championing this show since day one, so here's a belated welcome back to Chris Rock & Company. (8 tonight, WNUV-Channel 54) *** ( 3 STARS)

THE JET SET Hello, how many weeks has it been since I have mentioned Mad Men, the greatest drama on television? Not since it won the big Emmy as best drama? Am I losing my mind?

On Sunday's show, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) goes to Los Angeles and meets the folks named in the title of the episode, "The Jet Set." Peggy (Elisabeth Moss), meanwhile, is trying to find romance, if not love. (10 p.m. Sunday, AMC) *** 1/2 ( 3 1/2 STARS)

LATE-NIGHT GUESTS Actor Jeremy Piven visits, while singer Lou Reed performs on The Late Show with David Letterman (11:35 p.m., CBS). Singer Jackson Browne performs on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (11:35 p.m., NBC).
