Woman finds body under Edmondson Ave. bridge
A woman walking with her children Saturday morning discovered a man's body in the water under a bridge in the 3200 block of Edmondson Ave., police said. The medical examiner concluded that, based on the nature of the man's injuries, he probably jumped. The man's identity was unconfirmed, police said.
Teenager shot in apparent robbery attempt in city
A 15-year-old boy who was sitting outside in the 2700 block of Rittenhouse Ave. was shot in his side late Saturday night in what police said was an apparent robbery attempt. The teenager was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was in critical but stable condition, police said. The boy was sitting on a wall with two friends when two men approached and announced a robbery, police said. Shortly thereafter, one of the suspects fired a shotgun, and then both men fled on foot and drove away in a dark vehicle.
Construction to begin on Pennington Ave. bridge
A rehabilitation project is set to begin today for the Pennington Avenue Bascule Bridge over Curtis Creek, and city transportation officials are planning major traffic changes. Today and tomorrow, as concrete barriers are placed on the northbound bridge, traffic in both directions will be shifted onto the southbound bridge from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tomorrow at 3 p.m., motorists in both directions will be diverted to the northbound bridge, and the new traffic pattern will be in place throughout the project. The bridge project will include the replacement and upgrading of the electrical system, operating machinery, sidewalk grating and control house, according to transportation officials.
