Morgan State (0-0) @ Towson (0-1)
Time: 6 p.m.
Site: Johnny Unitas Stadium
Outlook: The Bears are hoping to get their 2008 season off to a winning start while the Tigers are looking to rebound from last week's loss at Navy. Senior linebacker Jerrell Guyton returns to lead the Bears on defense and is looking to improve on last season's numbers, when he recorded 62 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks. The Tigers, meanwhile, feature a strong passing attack led by senior quarterback Sean Schafer, who threw for more than 300 yards in last week's loss. History is also on Towson's side, as the Tigers are 14-2 in home openers under coach Gordy Combs. This is the 21st meeting between the two schools, with Towson leading the series 15-5.
Bowie State (1-0) @ Shepherd (1-0)
Time: 1 p.m.
Site: Rams Stadium, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Outlook: The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive 51-26 win over Cheyney last week. Redshirt freshman Tariq Jones (Edmondson) led the offense with 102 rushing yards and a touchdown while fellow running back Rodney Webb (Millford Mill) added a pair of touchdowns. Bowie State's defense will be tested by the Rams' ground attack, which is led by running back Jimmy Sutch. The sophomore gained 201 yards last week in Shepherd's 20-16 win over Shippensburg.
St. Lawrence (0-0) @ Johns Hopkins (0-0)
Time: Noon
Site: Homewood Field
Outlook: The Blue Jays have won six of their past seven openers and will rely on running back Andrew Case to make it seven out of eight. The junior averaged 112 yards last season after taking over the starting role midseason. All-Centennial Conference kicker Alex Lachman also returns for his sophomore season after an impressive freshman campaign in which he went 11-for-12 on field-goal attempts. St. Lawrence won its last two games to finish 2007 on a high note and comes in having won five consecutive openers.
McDaniel (0-0) @ St. Vincent (0-0)
Time: 1 p.m.
Site: Chuck Noll Field, Latrobe, Pa.
Outlook: The Green Terror will be looking for someone to fill the quarterback void left by departing seniors Brad Baer and Tom Wenrich. Freshman Vinny Corona is one of three vying for the starting job, behind returning juniors Joe Lapkowicz and Zach Swope (Hammond), each of whom played little last season. The Bearcats have similar issues behind center and will hand the reins to junior Jordan Cleary while four freshmen battle behind him for playing time.
Salisbury (0-0) @ Albright (0-0)
Time: 6 p.m.
Site: Shirk Stadium, Reading, Pa.
Outlook: The Sea Gulls posted their sixth consecutive winning season in 2007 and also earned a trip to the NCAA tournament. One win was against Albright in last year's opener for both teams. If the Sea Gulls hope to repeat that performance, they will have to stop quarterback Tanner Kelly, who took his conference's Offensive Player of the Year award last season after throwing for more than 2,700 yards.
