Boy, 15, killed when bike is hit by van

A 15-year-old Reisterstown-area boy was killed yesterday afternoon when he drove his dirt bike into the path of a van in the street at the end of his driveway, Baltimore County police said.

Connor Richard Kohls was riding a Yamaha 125cc dirt bike up and down the lengthy driveway of his home in the 13000 block of Dover Road near Tufton Springs Lane when he entered Dover Road and was struck by a northbound Ford Econoline van about 3:30 p.m., said Sgt. Robert Czawlytko of the county police crash team.

Kohls and the dirt bike were dragged for several feet, he said. Kohls, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by county medics, Czawlytko said.

The van is owned by a Pennsylvania flooring company and was driven by David Auble, 25, of Airville, Pa., Czawlytko said. The van's driver was not injured.

Car flips, hits pole, killing woman, 50

A Glen Burnie woman was killed when she lost control of her car in Pasadena, flipping it and ramming into a utility pole, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday.

Eileen Marie Artley Rey, 50, was traveling north on Fort Smallwood Road about 10:50 a.m. Sunday at more than 100 mph, police said, when she failed to negotiate a curve, drove across the center median, crossed over the southbound lanes, and drove off the west side of the roadway.

Her 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo struck a drainage ditch, which caused it to rotate while overturning. While traveling sideways, the vehicle struck a utility pole on the corner of the BP gas station at Fort Smallwood and Sycamore roads.

When Rey's vehicle hit the utility pole, it bent in half and wrapped around the pole. The engine came to rest in the middle of the parking lot. Rey was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Two vehicles stopped at the gas station to pump gas sustained minor damage when they were stuck by debris from Rey's vehicle.

He and the bike fell and slid along the pavement and against a guardrail before coming to a rest in the travel portion of the road.
