HENRY CHARLES ROE SHORT a retired insurance company executive died July 30, 2008 from Cancer. He was 92 years old and lived in Towson. In 1980 he retired from the Sun Life Insurance Co. of America where he was the training officer of the company. He started with Sun Life in 1938 as an agent. During his career he was active in industry Circles as a part member of the board of directors of the Baltimore Life Underwriters Association, member of the Maryland Life Underwriters Association, and General Agents, and Managers Association. Mr. Short was born in Baltimore. He was a 1933 graduate of Baltimore Poly Tech. Institute "A" course where he placed on the varsity baseball team. He also played semi-pro for a number of teams in the Baltimore area. A lifelong sports enthusiast he was a season ticket holder for many years for the old Baltimore Colts. He played golf regularly until he was 90 years old. During World War II he served in the Army in Europe with the 113th Cavalry Regiment and with the Air Forces 40th Mobile Communications Outfit. He was discharged in 1945. Mr. Short is survived by a son William Thomas Short and a daughter Bette C. Short, a grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of many close friends. Mr. Short was predeceased by a daughter Nancy E. Albrecht, a companion of 40 plus years to Mary Keen, and a ex-wife Lillian Pack. A Funeral Service will be held at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Road (beltway exit 26A) on Monday at 11:00 A.M. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M.
