Maryland Hall gets $10,000
Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts' executive director, Linnell Bowen, and president of the board of directors, Lily Openshaw, recently accepted a $10,000 donation to the center from Veronica Tovey, publisher of What's Up? Annapolis and What's Up? Eastern Shore.
Group raises more than $11,000
Opportunity Builders Inc. raised more than $11,000 at its fifth annual Links Challenge at Eisenhower Golf Course in Crownsville.
The winning foursome was the Jefferson Leasing team represented by Larry Simmons, Rod Just, Dave Contrill and Dean Hienzman.
Opportunity Builders Inc.'s mission is to provide adults with developmental disabilities vocational training, employment opportunities, recreational activities and support services.
Economist leads policy briefing
The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will host a policy briefing by economist Anirban Basu, "State Level Best Practices in Communications and Transportation Infrastructure Investment: Where Maryland Stands," at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the chamber office, 312 Marshall Ave., Suite 104, Laurel.
The talk is intended to give legislators and other stakeholders a summary of the available data and literature regarding state-level best practices in the development of transportation and communication infrastructure.
Assault conference needs sponsors
The Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault seeks businesses, agencies, organizations, programs and individuals as co-sponsors for the 2008 Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Conference.
All co-sponsors will be listed in the conference brochure and program. Co-sponsors must contact MCASA by Friday to be listed.
Tables for exhibitors and vendors are available at the conference for a fee of $125. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 12.
Nominations sought for awards
The Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence is accepting nominations for the 2008 awards that honor individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution toward the elimination of domestic violence.
The award categories are Legislative, Service, Media, Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice, Advocacy, Business/Civic/Community and Clergy/Education/Medical awards.
The nominating party must submit a one-page narrative outlining why the nominee should receive the award and how that person meets the criteria.

Entrepreneurs to hold meeting
The Entrepreneur's Exchange will hold a luncheon/meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Yellowfin Restaurant, 2840 Solomon's Island Road, Edgewater.
The luncheon/meeting costs $30 for members, $42 for nonmembers and $25 for students; walk-ins add $5.
United Way honors George Moran
The United Way of Central Maryland has honored George Moran, founder of Moran Insurance, with the first Bernard Cook Meritorious Leadership Award for his volunteer work throughout the county on behalf of its Community Partnership of Anne Arundel County.
