Free concert series continues in Towson
The Towson Chamber of Commerce is continuing its Feet on the Street concert series from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Friday through Sept. 26 on Allegheny Avenue between York Road and Washington Avenue.
Performers include Tony Scuito tomorrow; Mambo Combo, July 25; Checkered Past, Aug. 1; and Big Cam and the Lifters, Aug. 8.
The chamber provides live music and children's activities and area restaurants have outside seating and sell summertime foods.
Shops will be open throughout the evening.
The chamber also holds a farmers' market from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Nov. 20 on Allegheny Avenue between York Road and Washington Avenue, as well as a market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Allegheny and Washington avenues.
Towson church wins Great Green award
The Maryland Presbyterian Church of Towson has been named a Great Green Congregation by the Eco-Justice Program of the National Council Churches of Christ, one of eight churches nationwide to receive the designation.
The congregation on Providence Road said it has undertaken a number of projects to protect the church's property and its environment.
'Senior Idol' auditions set
The county Department of Aging will hold its fourth annual "Senior Idol" auditions at three senior centers this summer.
Auditions will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Parkville center, 8601 Harford Road; 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Pikesville center, 1301 Reisterstown Road; and 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 4 at the Ateaze center, 7401 Holabird Ave.
Participants must be 60 or older and county residents to compete and must bring their own background music.
Winners from each audition will compete to become the Baltimore County Senior Idol at the Senior Expo/Baby Boomer Expo on Oct. 30.
