* Barbara Bozzuto has been named chairwoman of the St. Agnes Hospital's board of directors.
This is a move up for Bozzuto, who has already served on the board and has worked on the hospital's $25 million capital campaign. She also serves as a commissioner of the Maryland State Commission on Public Art and is chairwoman of WYPR radio's board of directors.
As chairwoman, Bozzuto will oversee the budget process and assist the board with stewardship, credentialing of medical staff, fundraising and CEO evaluation, among other duties.
* Mike Gimbel is the first director of Powered by ME!, a steroid education program for young athletes, families and coaches.
The program was launched in February 2007 by St. Joseph Medical Center, along with state Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick, and U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings. Cummings, a Democrat who has taken a lead in congressional hearings investigating steroids in professional baseball, was the inspiration for the St. Joseph's program.
Gimbel has been involved with Powered by ME! from the start, speaking to and holding seminars for school, athletic and community groups. He is a substance abuse expert and has served as director of Substance Abuse Education for the Sheppard Pratt Health System.
* Dr. Alan S. Davis was appointed to chief of surgery at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown.
Davis is the former president of the medical staff and 24-year member of the Department of Surgery. Before his appointment, Davis was assistant chief of surgery at Northwest. His specialty is in general surgery with a focus on breast diseases.
Davis attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
