Tabbed as one of the worst teams in baseball before the season started, Kansas City won six straight games and 12 of 14 before losing Saturday and yesterday, and temporarily moved ahead of the Cleveland Indians for fourth place in the American League Central. The teams were tied going into today. The Orioles took three of four games from the Royals last month in Kansas City, losing on the final day (a Sunday) to be denied the sweep. Burres took the loss. He hasn't started since June 19, but Burres said he is fine following a recurrence of a stomach ailment that caused him to miss a start Wednesday. Davies didn't make it out of the second inning two starts ago, but he lasted 6 1/3 on Saturday, allowing three earned runs in a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
