Felon gets 15 years for having guns

The Baltimore Sun

A 28-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced yesterday to more than 15 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a gun, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles Jr. sentenced Michael Martin to 188 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to federal prosecutors. Quarles increased Martin's sentence after determining he was an armed career criminal, based on previous drug convictions and a conviction for assault with intent to murder.

Prosecutors said that in April 2007, Baltimore police found three guns and 148 grams of crack cocaine in a 1995 Lincoln sedan. They had previously seen Martin sitting in the driver's seat of the car, and they recovered a key to the car from him.
