Theater workshops set for children, teens

TheatreworksLive! Inc. will offer summer musical theater workshops for children this summer.

Available programs include:

*Advanced Theatreworks: Created for teens ages 14 to 18, this workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at County Ballet Dance Studio, 2232 Old Emmorton Road, Abingdon, and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 23 to July 11 at St. Mary's. Students will learn advanced scenes, songs, dances and monologues and prepare material for a performance. The cost is $235.

*Theatreworks Jr.: This workshop is offered to children ages 5 to 8 from 9 a.m. to noon June 23 to July 10 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Route 924 in Abingdon. Students will prepare a short musical play. A public performance will be held July 12. The cost is $135.

*Musical Theatreworks: A class for youths ages 9 to 13 is offered from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 to July 12 at St. Mary's. Youths will focus on character development, vocal presentation, movement and creative acting. A progam will be held at 7 p.m. July 11 at Cecil College's Milburn Stone Memorial Theatre. The cost is $235.

Students should arrive no later than 10 minutes before class and be picked up promptly afterward.

Tuition includes a $15 administrative fee. Full tuition will be refunded in case of cancellation due to insufficient enrollment.

Love letters sought for Cecil production

The CoLABorative, Cecil College's resident professional company of Performing Arts Program faculty, invites the public to submit actual love letters, cards, poems, images and other items for Love Letter Project, Part II, an original production of dance, music and theater.

Submissions are welcomed in the following categories: "Falling in Love," "Unrequited Love," "Parents and Children," "The Good Fight," "After Great Pain," "Falling in Love Again," "Of Love and Art," "Self Love," "Forbidden Love," "Betrayal," "Letting Go" and "Making Amends."

All submissions must include the name of the writer, the contact person, phone number, mailing address, e-mail address and category. Please include "LLP #2" in the e-mail's subject line or on the bottom left corner of an envelope.

Submissions can be e-mailed to or mailed to CoLABorative, c/o Cecil College Performing Arts Program, Elkton Station, Room 114, 107 Railroad Ave., Elkton, 21921.

Materials may be used whole or in part and will not be returned, but will be archived for use in developing a new show annually.

Love Letter Project, Part II will be performed at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, 2009 in the Milburn Stone Theatre on the North East campus.
