Quest to deter car thefts

The Maryland/DC Anti-Car Theft Committee and the Howard County Police Department will offer a Free Vehicle Identification Etching from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center, 9105-G All Saints Road, North Laurel.

A unique vehicle identification number will be engraved on all the major pieces of glass in each car as a deterrent to theft and to assist in returning stolen vehicles to their owners.

Those who attend can register in the Watch Your Car Program, a national vehicle theft prevention program.

Savage event to honor area veterans

The Savage Historical Society is collecting information and photographs for a project honoring Savage-area veterans who served between Sept. 16, 1940, and Dec. 31, 1946. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15.

The society was recently advised that donations on its behalf are being requested in the area.

Members of the community are asked to refuse these unauthorized requests and report them to the society.

Traveling summer theater to perform

As part of the 30th anniversary of the Montpelier Summer Concert Series, the South Laurel Recreation Council will sponsor three free performances by the Tent Troupe, a traveling summer tent theater.

The Tent Troupe will present The Curious Savage at 7:45 p.m. June 22 and 23, rain or shine under the big tent; seating is provided. A children's show, Stories Old and New, featuring classic children's tales, will be offered at 1:45 p.m. June 23.

Tickets are not required for the performances, which will be held at 9652 Muirkirk Road, in Laurel. Free public and handicapped parking is available at the Muirkirk Road entrance, off Route 197, a mile west of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

The performances are being provided by the South Laurel Recreation Council volunteers and Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring.
