Brand Energy and Infrastructure Services, which provides pipeline infrastructure and building materials for the construction industry, is moving an operations center that will employ about 100 workers from Beltsville to a redeveloped warehouse in Southeast Baltimore.
Construction is to start at the Holabird Industrial Park on Monday to redevelop the 15-acre site of the former Lesaffre Yeast Corp. manufacturing plant, which closed in late 2005.
Principals of Baltimore brokerage firm Corridor Reznick LLC acquired the property for $2 million in December 2006 and have been doing environmental cleanup and marketing, Michael B. Glick, chairman of Corridor Reznick LLC, said yesterday.
Brand, based in Kennesaw, Ga., has signed a 10-year lease to move into about 42,000 square feet of a warehouse that will be expanded, Glick said. Brand will also occupy a 6,000-square-foot office building that the developers are rehabbing, he said.
Brand will use the warehouse to house forming, shoring and scaffolding products that will be sold or leased to the construction industry.
The company will have about 40 permanent employees and employ about 60 outside unionized laborers, said Bruce Kocsis, branch manager in Beltsville for Brand Energy Services.
The Holabird site offers "easy access for our trucks to get in and out on deliveries and returns, and the space is what we needed for the yard," Kocsis said.
About 50 businesses, many of them related to the port of Baltimore, are located in the 220-acre business park and employ more than 2,000 workers.
In March, Baltimore-based Tulkoff Food Products Inc., best known for its horseradish and related products, moved into a new 80,000-square-foot building there.
The $3.5 million expansion will bring the warehouse on Van Deman Street to 80,000 square feet. It is scheduled to be completed in September, when Brand will relocate.
Brand will be the second tenant in the warehouse, which also houses port shipping company Cinder Express.
