Injured man flees ambulance on I-95

The Baltimore Sun

A man injured last night during a traffic accident in Essex bailed out of a moving ambulance on Interstate 95 as it was headed to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was captured about an hour later when a K-9 unit found him unconscious in woods off the interstate, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m, a medic crew responded to Route 702 near Homberg Avenue to help the man, who apparently was injured in an accident. After placing a neck collar on the man, medics put him into the Fire Department ambulance.

While the vehicle was on I-95 and near the I-95/895 split in Rosedale about 20 minutes later, the man opened the ambulance's rear door, fell onto the highway and then ran toward woods, police said.

Police searched for the man, who was about 30 years old and wearing pants but no shirt.

At 10 p.m., an officer and his dog found the man. After he was examined, he was placed in the original ambulance and taken to Shock Trauma, a Fire Department official said. His condition was not available.
