Boy, 16, indicted in mother's death

A county grand jury has indicted a 16-year-old in the death of his mother and the beating of his father, according to court records.

Lewin Carlton Powell III of Towson was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, according to documents filed in Circuit Court.

Powell was arrested last month and accused of using a baseball bat to fatally beat Donna Rosemarie Campbell-Powell, 39, after the two argued in their Alston Road home about the teenager's grades at McDonogh School, where he was a sophomore. Powell was also accused of hitting his father, Lewin Carlton Powell Jr., with the bat.

The teen is being charged as an adult and is being held in the county detention center.

Powell is the second Baltimore County teenager this year to be charged with murder in the death of a parent.
