Lawson elected a corporate director
Barbara K. Lawson, outgoing president and chief executive officer of the Columbia Foundation, has been elected a director of Howard Bancorp and Howard Bank.
She has served for 19 years as head of Howard County's Community Foundation and will leave that post this month.
Lawson was named to the Howard County Women's Hall of Fame in 2002 and has been recognized by the Horizon Foundation and Howard County Chamber of Commerce and as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. She is a founding member of the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County.
Truby is to become HCC board chief
James Truby will become chairman of the Howard Community College Board of Trustees, effective July 1. Truby, now vice chair, will succeed Patrick Huddie, whose two-year term began in 2006.
Truby has been a member of the college's board since 2002. He is a member of the Baltimore-Washington International Airport Development Council, Leadership Howard County and is secretary of the board of the Horizon Foundation.
He is founding principal of Synthesis Inc., a Howard County real estate consulting firm specializing in developing institutional facilities.
Truby was also a member of the Howard County Adequate Public Facilities Commission, and he served on the Initiating Committee of Vision Howard County, chairing its Environmental and Historic Preservation Task Force; he was president of the Howard County Economic Forum, chairman of the advisory committee for the Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies, and has served many other institutions and civic organizations.
Board member Katherine Rensin will replace Truby as vice chair.
