Boys track

Performer of the Year

Jermol Dix

Western Tech

The senior helped carry the Wolverines to their first state title. The UMES-bound Dix won the Class 1A 300 hurdles despite tripping over the last one and falling. He had enough presence of mind to get up and lunge over the finish line.

Dix's work in sprints, hurdles and relays helped Western Tech pull off an impressive sweep of the Baltimore County, Class 1A North regional and state titles. He came through with big victories throughout the season and helped Western Tech come up with the points it needed to be successful.

Coach of the Year

Shedrick Elliott

Western Tech

He has played a major role in the turnaround of the Western Tech program since joining the team as a coach 18 months ago. Elliott helped Western Tech - which doesn't even have a track - go from an also-ran to a powerhouse in Class 1A.

The Wolverines won this year's Class 1A state title, and Elliott uses different strategies depending on the situation. At one meet, he didn't run any of his athletes in relays to concentrate on individual events. He also took them to highly competitive meets to test them against elite performers.
