A recap of the Orioles' 6-3 win over the Red Sox last night:

Still not good enough

What else does Jeremy Guthrie have to do to get a win, besides throw a perfect game? Guthrie had lost his past three starts before settling for a no-decision last night after backup catcher and No. 9 hitter Kevin Cash doubled to drive in the tying run in the seventh inning. Instead, Jim Johnson got the win despite allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth. The Orioles scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth against Hideki Okajima, with Adam Jones delivering the last three on a two-out, bases-loaded double. He is 3-for-5 with three doubles and nine RBIs with the bases loaded this season.

Trying not to knuckle under

The Orioles took a smart approach against Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in the fourth inning. Instead of trying to mash the cover off the ball, they kept jabbing at it, manufacturing two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Melvin Mora walked with one out and advanced on a passed ball. Aubrey Huff doubled to right field, scoring Mora, and Kevin Millar poked an RBI single to center field.

Second time tossed

Orioles manager Dave Trembley was ejected in the third inning for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. Plate umpire Alfonso Marquez looked toward the Orioles' bench while Freddie Bynum was batting and gave Trembley the heave-ho. Trembley came out to state his case, and he provided a visual aid, tracing his finger along the inside chalk line of each side of the batter's box. Apparently, he wasn't happy with Marquez's strike zone. Trembley also was ejected May 23 at Tropicana Field, again from the dugout.

On deck

The Orioles begin a nine-game, 10-day road trip tonight (8:10) at Minnesota. The Twins went 7-0 against the Orioles last season. Radhames Liz has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to make tonight's start. He was 1-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 11 starts, with 25 walks and 58 strikeouts in 60 innings. The Twins are starting Kevin Slowey, a second-round draft pick in 2005 who has allowed one run in his past two outings covering 15 innings.
