A 23-year-old man was in critical condition yesterday after he was stabbed in the chest Tuesday night while walking at Charles and Baltimore streets in downtown Baltimore, police said.

The stabbing occurred at 10:18 p.m., police said. A city police officer found the man, whose name police did not release, lying on the ground with wounds to his chest. Paramedics took the victim to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery.

Police did not know of a motive for the attack and had no suspects.
