M. Catherine Honeman, a retired senior accountant who was active in her church, died of heart failure May 16 at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Stella Maris resident was 88.
Mary Catherine Blake was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated from Eastern High School.
Mrs. Honeman worked for more than 20 years as a senior accountant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's old Federal Land Bank in the 2300 block of St. Paul St. in Charles Village.
She retired in 1982 and remained active with the bank's retirees' organization.
Mrs. Honeman, who had lived in the Cromwell Valley Apartments for 30 years before moving to Stella Maris in 2005, enjoyed taking humanties courses at Essex Community College.
"A gracious woman, she was known for her positive attitude, friendly manner, and style - always dressing smartly for any occasion," said Lisa J. Wingate, a niece, of Ellicott City.
Mrs. Honeman conducted a lively correspondence through letters, cards and e-mails, her niece said.
She also liked writing prose and poetry.
Her husband of 28 years, Milton Honeman, a World War II Army veteran and automobile appraiser, died in 1981.
She was an active member of The New Church, East Northern Parkway at Dartmouth Glen Way, Baltimore, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Surviving are many other nieces and nephews.
