Communication seminar June 7

The Carey School of Business at the Johns Hopkins University will sponsor a free seminar, "Conquering Mars & Venus in the Workplace: Strategies to Bridge the Communication Gap," from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 7 at the downtown Baltimore campus of the business school, 10 N. Charles St.

The seminar, to be presented by GenderStrategy principals Trent Kittleman and Joan Athen, will raise awareness of gender-based differences in communication styles in the workplace and strategies for closing the gap.

GenderStrategy, a Howard County company, provides training in gender-based communication to increase job satisfaction and productivity.

Vytex Windows makes a top 100 list

Vytex Windows, a North Laurel maker of vinyl replacement windows and doors, has been listed by Window & Door magazine as one of the nation's top 100 window manufacturers.

The 20-year-old company employs 70 people at its Howard County facility and grosses about $20 million a year. The factory produces up to 500 windows and doors a day, each made in the specific dimensions of the item it will replace. Vytex also installs its products. The company's windows and doors carry and Energy Star label.

Vytex's founder and chief executive officer, Andy Weinrub, is a Polish immigrant who dropped out of a Baltimore high school in 11th grade and learned the vinyl window business as an assistant installer before co-founding Vytex in 1988.
