WHEN THE NAME OF the party is Steppin' Out to the Stars, and you're encouraged to "glam it up" for one of your favorite charities, TurnAround Inc., Edgewood resident Christina Bauer knows how to make it pop. While her job as a Baltimore County court advocate for domestic violence victims requires her to wear suits to work, she loves color. Bauer knows how to add a dash to her daytime outfits. She makes a big splash in her hot-pink mermaid dress at night -- particularly when it's for a charity where she also volunteers. TurnAround Inc. helps victims of sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.
Job: Baltimore County court advocate for domestic violence victims
Self-described style: "Classic."
The look: Fuchsia satin Zum Zum strapless mermaid gown with black piping and bows. Black fabric Jacqueline Ferrar strappy sandals. Pink elephant patterned Vera Bradley quilted wristlet bag. Silver and Swarovski crystal beads on a white gold chain. Silver and pearl drop earrings. Silver charm bracelet and a silver Pandora bracelet. Hot-pink nail polish to match!
Where she got it: The gown was on sale at David's Bridal. The shoes came from Nordstrom, the bag from Kokopelli. Her necklace came from Nelson Coleman Jewelers, the earrings from Fire & Ice. She bought the charm bracelet at a craft show, but found the charms at Smyth, along with her other bracelet.
She loves a good sale: "To be honest, I shop all the clearance racks. This dress was on the clearance rack. I've had it for about four years."
She colors her world: "I wear a lot of suits for court. But I like colorful suits. ... I love the color of this dress. And the back. I love all the little bows."
She hands it to her bags: "Purses. I probably have a hundred of them. My latest obsession has been the Vera Bradley [line]. I've bought about five or six of them last few months. They're so easy to change out. You can change [your handbag] every day, every week. You can have winter purses with fur, summer purses with color."
She brightens in brief: "[Carrying colorful handbags] is one of the fun ways you can wear color in court. I even have a purple briefcase. That was after I retired my green briefcase. And the red one."
