Dangerous Boys Club meets June 2

The Dangerous Boys Club, a club for both boys and girls, will meet at 2 p.m. June 2 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in the Long Gate Shopping Center, 4300 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City.

The meeting will focus on "Nature and Exploring." Participants will learn to identify insects and create dinosaur models.

The club, which is based on the popular book by brothers Conn and Hal Iggulden, The Dangerous Book for Boys, meets at 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month. The book includes discussion of skills such as building tree houses, fishing, finding true north, skimming stones and displaying courage in dangerous situations.

Various classes for ages 55 and over

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a class for ages 55 and older, "Easy Meals for Easy Living," from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. June 2 at the Kiwanis Wallas Recreation Center. The cost is $10, and includes recipes to take home.

"Stamping on Tile," a class in using rubber stamps and watercolor pens to create a work of art on tile, will be offered from 11:15 a.m. to noon June 9 at the same location. The cost is $4.

Cheerleading, Football : The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting registration for Elkridge Hurricanes Flag and Tackle football and cheerleading. Practice begins in August at Elkridge Landing Middle School. The season runs through mid-November. Flag football for ages 5-6 costs $85; tackle football for ages 7-14 costs $160. Free bridge, knitting : The Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center sponsors a bridge group from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; pinochle meets from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Those who attend are invited to bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea and treats will be provided. Donations are accepted for the snack fund. Duplicate bridge is available from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays. Mah-jongg is played at the center from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Admission is free. A community service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Kiwanis Wallas center. The Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center, is at 10481 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. A Bunco program for ages 55 and older, sponsored by Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 23, July 28 and Aug. 25. 20th anniversary : The Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, will hold a free 20th anniversary celebration and open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Entertainment is planned at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. There will be a cake-cutting at 1 p.m. The Irishman's Chorale will perform at 2 p.m. Photographs will be taken of those who attend. 410-313-1400.
